Don't Get Scammed Buying Solar in Nigeria — Know Your Exact KVA Needs in 15 Minutes

Jonathan Onovo, Founder of Eccentric Solar Limited, greeting a customer at the store

You've probably already gotten three solar quotes. One says ₦3 million. Another says ₦6 million. A third says ₦8 million — for what sounds like the exact same system.

Nobody explained why.

Maybe you've already had that moment — scrolling through a Facebook ad at 11pm, seeing a "5KVA system, powers your whole house including AC and freezer," for a price that feels too good. Is this real, or is this the same story my cousin fell for?

Maybe you already know someone who paid a deposit to a vendor who sounded confident, professional, even had a nice showroom photo online — and then the installation failed, or the components were fake, and the same vendor stopped picking up calls.

I've watched this happen more times than I can count. Not on a screen — in my own store, in my own client meetings, in phone calls where someone is telling me about a system that failed six months after another company installed it.

Here's the part that frustrates me most: it's usually not because solar "doesn't work" in Nigeria. It's because nobody sat the buyer down and separated what they actually need from everything they want — before a number got quoted.

So the installer either inflates the size to inflate the price. Or the buyer insists on powering everything — every socket, every AC, every appliance — and ends up needing a system twice the size (and twice the cost) of what their real daily life requires.

Either way, someone loses. Usually it's you.

Drop everything for the next few minutes and let me show you exactly how to stop this from happening to you.

I built a simple audit tool that tells you your real number — before any installer tells you theirs.

The Story

Why I Built This

My name is Jonathan Onovo. I'm a solar installer. My company, Eccentric Solar Limited, is a registered, certified solar energy company here in Nigeria — we design and install residential and office solar systems, we run an energy audit and consultancy service, and we have a trained team of technicians we deploy for every contract.

Over the years, I've sat across from hundreds of clients doing the exact same thing: helping them separate what they actually need powered from everything they wish they could power. Almost every single time, once we do that exercise honestly, the cost comes down to something they can actually afford — and the system we install actually carries the load, instead of collapsing under it.

But for every client who reaches me, I know there are many more who don't. They go online instead. They see an ad promising a small, cheap system that "handles everything." They get talked into a size that doesn't match their real load. Or worse — they send a deposit to a vendor who disappears the moment something goes wrong, blaming "parts not available" until the calls simply stop.

I got tired of hearing these stories after the fact — when there was nothing left to do but commiserate. So I took the same audit process I use with my paying installation clients, and I turned it into something anyone can use themselves, before they ever hand over a naira to anyone — me included.

That's what this bundle is.

Inside The Main Guide

What You Actually Get

This isn't a "tips" ebook. It's a working audit tool with two tracks — one for your home, one for an office or shop — built the same way I audit real installation contracts.

  • Pg. 3Needs vs. Wants Worksheet — the exact exercise I use with clients before I ever quote a job, so you walk in already knowing what actually matters.
  • Pg. 6Home Load Calculator (Track A) — pre-filled wattage references for common Nigerian household appliances, so you get your real KVA number in minutes, no engineering degree required.
  • Pg. 11Office & Business Load Calculator (Track B) — for shops, offices, and businesses running ACs and equipment through the workday, sized around your actual operating hours.
  • Pg. 15The 7-Point Vendor Vetting Checklist — the exact questions and red flags I'd want a family member to check before they pay any installer a deposit — including me.
  • Pg. 18Quote Comparison Tracker — a simple sheet to log multiple vendor quotes side-by-side against your real numbers, so you can see instantly who's being honest.
  • Pg. 20NEPA Bill Reduction Projection — for Band A households and offices, a realistic way to estimate how much your monthly bill could actually shrink.
  • Pg. 22Red Flags After Installation — early warning signs your system was undersized or a component is failing, before it becomes total collapse.

You don't need to be technical. You don't need to trust another salesman's word for it. You just need 15 minutes and your last NEPA bill.
